This range features Broadberry servers which utilise VMware ESXi, the industry-leading virtualisation platform. Redefining availability and significantly simplifying the virtual data centre, this hypervisor architecture sets the industry standard for performance, reliability and cross-platform support.
ESXi delivers a virtualisation layer which abstracts the CPU, memory, storage and networking resources of the physical host into multiple virtual machines. Applications running in VMs are able to access these resources without requiring direct access to the underlying hardware. The hypervisor used by VMware ESXi is referred to as vmkernel. Virtual machines send requests to the vmkernel, which then presents these requests to the physical hardware.
A major advantage of VMware ESXi Certified Supermicro Servers is that architecture significantly simplifies the process of maintaining a consistent virtual infrastructure.
Important features are supported, such as traffic shaping, logging and auditing, memory ballooning, role-based security access and vSphere PowerCLI. VMware EXSi features the capability to configure up to 128 CPUs and 120 devices.
This functionality can be managed by admins through utilising remote tools instead of a CLI. In addition, rather than relying on third-party management agents ESXi is able to utilise an API-based integration model.
In a combination of security and administrative features, EXSi can maintain a comprehensive log of user activity to allow for simple, accurate auditing and to ensure user accountability.
All management is dealt with through APIs, which allow for an agentless approach which requires no extra installation of licenses. Remote command lines such as the vSphere Command Line Interface and PowerCLI allows for commanding and scripting in a substantially more precise, speedy and controlled manner for configuration and diagnostics.
